Next year I'll try tall corn, tall sunflowers, big head sunflowers, mangels, radish, and a few others for giggles as well as redoing these. We had an average to good year in a poor season making them look more impressive than they were, but we're happy.
How did you do?
tallest corn: 18'2" tallest sunflower: 14'4" largest marrow ~25 pounds (hangs head in shame)
I don't think marrows like the intense heat we saw this summer. I did much better last year when we had a cooler summer. Last year, all of my marrows were over 30 pounds. This year my marrows in NY were over 20 pounds. My house in NJ they were all around 10 pounds. My house in NJ is 2 1/2 hours south of my place in NY. Next year, the second I think we aren't having another frost, those seeds are going right into the ground. The seeds I'm using are capable of getting over a 100 pounds. It's either the heat that is the problem, or I just don't know what I'm doing. I'm going to put some more effort into growing them next year.
Amateurs!!!!! :) My Marrow weighed in at a whole 48 lbs...My Sun Flower was fed to a goat before I could measure it. Brian are you going to participate in the 2006 Giant Veggie Exchange. :) Shannon
