new giant pumpkin record set

Wow they just keep getting bigger and bigger. I missed the competition this year but was sitting here sipping some coffee watching the news and saw a clip on some guy carving the new world record pumpkin. I missed the weight, All I caught was that he is from Pa and his wife held the record about 4 years back and the same guy was called in from oregon to carve the big monster. I can't wait to get some seed and give it a try next year.

I don't have the best ground available this year but will continue to improve the small area I have here and look for a better spot for future years. Hate to give up flower beds but well this I feel is going to become an obsession. Especially as soon as I top 400lb for the first time.

Wow they are getting big. When you grow that 400 pounder you will still be over 1000 pounds short of the record. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ has a picture of Larry Checkon's 1469 pound pumpkin.

Good luck getting a seed from it. There were 100 or less seeds in it. :o)

It is amazing that a giant like that produces only 100 or so seeds. I remember cleaning seeds from jack o lanterns that seemed to have no end to them.

I would never expect to get seeds from the actual world record setting pumpkin. I'm supposed to be on a list to get some AG seeds from another source is all. Another reason for such a low goal for the first year. But the main reason for my goal being so low is my ground is not in the best of shape yet although I have a good source of horse manure now as long as I want to go haul it away from there to here.
