small giant pumpkins

elder

Everyone gets hung up on raising a pumpkin over half a ton, except me. I tried Big Moon this year, planted it in very poor ground, and it produced a 65lb beauty. Carved it for Halloween and it made a hit. People were telling me how they could make it out at roughly 1/4 mile as they turned into our street.

Saved some seed, and next year will try it out on better soil. My AG grew spectacular vines, and didn't set one single fruit. I even hand-pollinated several flowers which had fruit about the size of softballs before aborting. Could just be our envoronment here in northeast VA isn't good for AG, but for what I paid for these pedigreed seeds I really expected more.

At any rate, I'm leading cheers for the small giants of the pumpkin world, and will shoot for better ones next year.....Elder
