Butterfly Ginger problem

I am new to growing gingers. I have a butterfly ginger that a friend gave to me. I planted it where it gets morning sun. I am having problems with it turning brown on the edges of the leaves when it reaches about 2' and it continues to grow and flower, getting more brown. It is about 1/2 dead by the time it flowers. I did find ants on it recently. I have a shell ginger next to it that is doing great. Any ideas?

houstonpat is correct. Gingers need plenty of water and fertilizer. They're heavy eaters and drinkers. Morning sun should be enough for them.

Hi, just relax! Butterfly gingers, Hedychiums always go dormant here in Florida. They are supposed to sleep in the winter. Don't water or you are apt to rot the plant. In another month or so the plant will start vigorous new growth....then feed and water. It flowers best with about 50% sun. Grow and learn more about gingers for a beautiful garden. Good growing. kaempferiaguy
