A Florida Ginger Novice Asks Questions...

Posted by Solstice98 9b Orlando FL (My Page) on

Hello to All. I'm new to this forum (I'm a Forida Gardens forum junkie) but eager to replant my hurricane-torn garden. Can anyone recommend a nursery in Orlando or Central Florida where I can see a nice variety of ginger? Although I lost some trees, the border I have in mind for the ginger has dappled morning sun, a very short burst of direct sun at noon and then shade all afternoon.

Is there a website where I can view a good selection of ginger and get some idea of their growing habits, heights, etc.?

And what's your favorite culinary ginger? I heard you can pull one up, pinch off a bud (toe?), and then replant it. True?!?

Thanks so much for your help and advice!
Kate

Hi Kate-

Though not in Florida, Tim has a lot of good information on his site.

Both of these are in Florida;
http://tropicalplantparadise.4t.com/
Gingersrus.com Sells on ebay sometimes
I also have bought from Gingerwood.
All 3 of these have nice large plants.
Do you trade or do you have anything left to trade?
I have a few gingers to trade and EE's.
