Alpinia Sanderae as houseplant?

Posted by seaecho1 SW CA (My Page) on

I have always admired gingers when I saw them at Lowe's or HD, especially the variegated varieties, but never got one because I thought they all got too tall. I have recently been reading about Alpinia Sanderae and found it only grows to 16." I'd love to have one as a houseplant. How do they do indoors year round? I've never had a ginger before. Any comments on your experiences, positive or negative with this ginger would really be appreciated!

Not sure what you have been reading but, A. sanderae is an incorrect name. It should be A. vittata and gets to about 5 feet.

Have no idea how it would do as a houseplant, but living in CA, seems to me it could live outside most of the year.
