Whats wrong with this curcuma?

Posted by Mickey_Sg Singapore (My Page) on

Hi all,

This problem of browned leaves is affecting my curcuma as well as my globbas, even though they are in shade all day.

The plants are watered every two days, and are never allowed to dry out. They get a bit of organic fertiliser (sheep dung) and occasional serving of two-part liquid fertiliser. All the other plants in the same position e.g ferns, tacca etc seem to be thriving.

What is the likely cause?

Hope you can help,
Kind Regards
Mick

If the fertilizer is not allowed to compost it will burn the plants. Do you also fertilize the ferns and other plants as much as the curcuma?

Apart from too much fertiliser, they symptoms may either be spider mites or the plants suffer from low humidity (but I consider this unlikely in Singapore) or go into an early dormancy. Check under leaves for a very fine spiderweb-like appearance and very very small reddish or greyish spots (the mites themselves).

Your Curcuma as well as your Globba would like to be allowed to go dormant as it's natural for most in those 2 genus.

I second with minibim. They'll need a dry dormant period. Exactly when this would be best for the humid tropics is anybody's guess.
