That ginger you buy at the grocery store....

I've tried planting it before, and every time I get these little white larvae that are on the roots, like fungus gnat larvae. I tried soaking the root in bleach water, scrubbing it, etc but I still got those little white larvae. Anyone have this happen to them? I'd love to grow that ginger so I can have my own supply.

What type soil are you using to put your ginger in?? Try to get a small bag of seed starting media. It is free of actual soil and mainly consist of peat or cocopeat. It is sterile (according to the bag).

Clean your pots and rinse the pots well with hot water then spray or dunk in a very weak bleach solution (1 tsp/quart or weaker) and dry them with a paper towel. Do not soak the ginger root in bleach water.
