Advice, anyone?

I just bought some ginger roots (Zingiber officinale) at the store today, they had light green bumps on them which I assume are the buds (?). I planted them flat in large pots and covered them with an inch of soil, but should I water them now (and if so, how much and how often?) or wait until they actually sprout?

Thanks!

Water them now and keep the soil evenly moist, but not soggy. They like regular watering. Just stick your finger in the soil to make sure it's slightly moist.

You can even keep the ginger root you use for cooking almost indefinately in the kitchen by leaving it on the countertop wrapped in newspaper or a paper towel and wetting that down every couple days. They even produce buds (YUMMY!)
