I have a hedychium gardenarium in a pot (south uk) which I have had for many years. The instructions I had when I bought it were to cut all the leaves off in the autumn and move it to a dry spot, and not water it again until May, when the shoots appeared. This I did for several years and it flowered most years. This year however I did not remove the leaves, and I am in a sheltered spot. We have had a mild winter, and the leaves are still intact. Should I remove them to encourage new growth ? Will the fact that I left them over the winter mean that that it won't flower this summer ?
