Ginger growing in pots?

| Hi,
Can ginger roots be grown in containers? I'm talking about the kind that is sold in Asian grocery stores as well as regular grocers.
Thanks,

Yes. Most gingers will do just fine in containers. Not all will flower though. Steve

Hi Steve, Do the flowers mean anything to the ginger roots multiplying? If not, I don't mind if they don't flower, but why wouldn't they flower if grown in pots? Just curious, Thanks, Vivian

Some large gingers need a large root and corm mass to flower. Which gingers do you want to grow. Steve

Yes, but it will need at least a 7 gallon pot. Steve

I once planted a ginger root that began to sprout when my husband stuck it on a dark cupboard shelf and I didn't find it for a month. It thrived well throughout the Indiana summer and filled the entire 2gal pot with roots. Fresh ginger does taste great. I guess it just depends on on your attitude and how you want to use the plant what is successfull. For me this was very fun to watch grow and eat in the fall when our northern Indiana weather killed the foliage. So if you want to try it decide for yourself and enjoy the results if you get it going.
