I have a ginger that is blooming now in upstate SC and I don't know what type it is. The foliage was getting brown around the edges so I cut the foliage only to find the darn thing was in bloom! The leaves are long and wavy on the edges and arranged in a circular fashion like a bird's nest fern. The blooms are encased in a red sheath and the flowers are red on the tips and white at the base of each flower. The person who I received this plant from told me it never bloomed and hers is blooming this year as well as another friends'. She has some in pots that she overwintered and these plants are not blooming. any ideas?
