| Anyone know anything about growing Galangal Root in the Sacramento, California area? |

Don't know about the specifics of Sacramento, but stick them in the ground. They can take partial sun and grow as easily as Hedychiums.

Alpinia Galanga is great and will even bloom for you if it freezes back. I give mine mornig sun and afternoon shade and feed them well. But they are wonderful and easy to grow.
