H. Coronarium is one of my favorites. Most of mine are in the ground but I keep a few in pots so I can move them around when I want a change of scenery. Go for something big and cheap. They will eventually break it. Although they do spread, invasivness shouldn't be a problem in NY since they won't winter over there. Give them lots of water and fertilizer and at least a half day of good sun. By late summer you will have some great smelling blooms. Dig them or bring in the containers after frost kills off the top growth.

Thank you so much for the advice.

You just confirmed what I already thought--needed a lttle confidence here--will repot into something very large.

The sprouts that were just beginning to emerge three weeks ago are now a foot tall, and the rhizome has spread to the edges of the pot.

Hope mine grows as well as yours and is as rewarding!

Also trying a few other gingers. Any advice on Alpinia purpurea, Kaempferia Gilbertii, and Zingiber Zerumbet?
