Hedychium flower bud aborts

Hi there,

Despite my Hedychium Coronarium being well taken care of, it flowers rarely, and then only briefly. Most recently, a bud started to form, thickening to about the thickness of a pinky finger, and then did not develop any further. I gave it a squeeze and it felt empty. Its in a bright but sheltered spot, receiving full tropcial sun during the middle of the day till late afternoon. Watered every day so as to avoid the leaves going brown. Otherwise its very healthy and growing strong and sturdy. It's in a container. What might be the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mick

RE: Hedychium flower bud aborts

These guys are heavy feeders and need a lot of water, including plenty of sunlight too. Dont worry about the heat as they do fine outdoors in full sun here in bangkok, despite temperatures now if 37C daily.
Or maybe your container is too crowded?
