I finally got a Ginger to bloom

After rotting ginger after ginger I got one to bloom. This is Alpinia japonica kinisiana 'Peppermint Stick'. It came through winter a little ratty & I wasn't expecting or knowing when it would bloom but I have five flowering stalks.

This is amazing I was just about to post about this exact plant! I clicked on your topic as I could see it is new, and what a coincidence!

I have my first ever flowers from this too, after almost 7 years in the ground! Of course it is very exciting because I thought I would never have flowers from an in the ground plant here. I was walking by and just happened to glance down and found three inflorescences! I simply cannot believe it!

I have kept track of the weather at my home since 1/1/97 and this past winter was the warmest yet. My lowest temp was only 22F. I have mostly been griping about the warm winter, but I must say having this ginger bloom, is a fantastic and unexpected benefit!!

I have a pic to share though it pales in comparison to yours Jayferg. Its cloudy here now, and my plant is in a pretty shady nook. Maybe when its sunny I can get a clearer shot, anyway here it is.....
