Coconut trees

I live in a Sydney suburb and have never seen a coconut tree in my area. I recently went to South Florida and saw many. Does anyone know if it is possible to grow a coconut tree in my area?
Thank you

And this relates to ginger, how?

RE: Coconut trees

depends on your winter temps
coconuts like the warmth, they dont do well with cold temps under 45 degrees F. they will survive but slow their growth down. under 40 F for extended periods, they just dont do too well
