Do not know much about ginger....

I have been admiring my neighbors ginger for a few years now. I asked her the name, and she wasn't sure, so without the name, I had no idea what I was looking for and was too embarrassed to ask for a cutting to take to the garden center. I finally found a plant like it at the garden center and realized it was ginger.

Anyway, she just chopped off several stalks from her collection and I was wondering if these were plants that could be stuck in the ground and produce anything?

I have done this with banana trees and other types of palm plants many times, so I wondered if ginger would do the same since it is palmy?

I apologize in advance for my ignorance regarding this plant. I just like the look and the smell. My husband hates it, which is why we did not buy it at the garden center. But I am determined to sneak them in somehow :)

You need to have rhizomes to start Ginger Lilies like you do for Cannas. What are the prices of Ginger Lilies?, just curious. I have some Ginger Lilies if you would like to have any I can send you some rhizomes for postage.

Hello. If it has a spiral growth habit, it can be rooted by cane cuttings. These type are called costus & there are several beautiful costus gingers.

What part of AL are you in? I'm just outside of Mobile.
