I 've had my Alpinia for several years now and it still hasn't bloomed! I have it in a spot where it gets the morning sun and then it is in filtered sun. Its put out the most growth in this spot but no flowers. I had it in direct sun before but it did not like it there at all.Any suggestions?

Regine, I have the pink and the red varities and they have been blooming non-stop for me. I'm also in zone 10 florida and have them planted on the east side of the house where they are shaded by my neighbors' house until mid-morning, then in full sun most of the afternoon. I usually water once a week or less in the winter, sometimes only 1 or 2 a month. I would offer you some divisions but right now mine is covered in scale and I have yet to treat it. :(

Thanks for the offer but they would probably quit blooming once I got them. I guess I'll just keep moving it until I find a spot it likes.

I can't grow this ginger in the ground in my zone but I get them to bloom at about 3 feet with steady doses of Super Bloom during the summer in containers. Steve

Thanks for the suggestion Steve, I'm going to try it.
