Last year we talked about Smithatris myanmarensis, I have two photos of the first blooms i've had on my current page linked below. I will follow up with more photos as it opens. It is growing in about 50 percent shade with some filtered light, growing as a canopy plant below a Costus.

RE: Smithatris myanmarensis

Nice to see that species has finally made it into cultivation in the US (outside the Smithsonian). I first saw it in 1999 on a collecting trip to Myanmar and was amazed, it was the best find of the trip. In the wild about 75% of individuals in a population are pink and 25% are white (basic Mendellian genetics at its finest!). Eventually some of the white and more intense pink strains will make it into cultivation I'm sure. Overall I much prefer it to C. alismatifolia, probably because it hasn't been bred to have giant washed out pink comas yet.

I think this will be the first of many exciting new introductions into the trade of plants from Myanmar. The country has incredible potential (as much or more than Thailand) but at this point is virtually unknown to botanists.

Congratulations on bringing this great plant into bloom!
