ginger id

I was given a couple of gingers but the person that gave them to me forgot what kinds they were. Well now one of them has finally bloomed and I can't find a picture of it on line.

The flower is almost identical as the flower on the Costus "Malortieanus". However the leaves on mine are about 6-8 inches long and thin and not round and fuzzy like

Costus "Malortieanus".

Sorry for no picture but I dropped my camera in a river a few weeks ago and I am looking for a new one.

Thanks for any help.

Ok, I think I may have figured it out. It might be costus pictus, except mine is only 2 1/2-3ft tall.

Impossible to ID without more info or a picture, but have you compared it to all the Costus pictures on the GingersRus site?

Yes, the most likely would be Costus pictus since it is the most common with a C. malortieanus-like flower, and narrow, glabrous leaves. Mine are blooming now too, and about 3-4 ft tall.

If the stems are patterned, and the leaves are wavy, that would clinch it.
