variegated shell ginger going green

I got a nicely variegated shell ginger this spring and it is now turning mostly green. I have it in dappled shade and try to keep it fairly moist. Does this ginger require more sun? How can I keep the leaves variegated. Also, does epsom salt tend to make the leaves more green or does it matter? Thanks

Here they are planted in full sun. And rarely get any supplemental watering. Tally HO!

Thanks for your response. I am going to move it to full sun. I have seen some growing around here and in Lafayette that are in full sun and very variegated. Mine seems to be variegated on the new growth and then turn green later. It was completely variegated on all growth when I first bought it at Lowe's and they had in in partial sun. Maybe I just got a crappy one lol..

I have the same problem in Huntington
Beach. Young growth is always heavily and beautifully variegated, later growth is nearly all green, but flowers are still the typically dysmorphic one of varietated alpinia zerumbet. I thought this was a probable trait of maturing plants, until I saw a full growth of highly variagated alpinia in several different clumps at Legoland. My plants get a lot of early am sun (typically haze) and shade by afternoon. They're growing somewhat as volunteers in heavy clay, moist soil, as that's where I happended to toss the rhizomes.

many variegated plants revert to green depending on your sun intensity full sun fries most gingers, even Alpinia zerumbet variegated. I grow it in dappled light here in central Florida or else it would burn up. some variegated shell ginger come from tissue culture and don't always hold their variegation from the lab.
