Basic question about ginger growing

Hi, I want to trying growing ginger from the root. I never saw a ginger plant until I went to the nursery and saw quite a few with beautiful foliage and thought it would make a nice addition to the garden landscape. Can you you use the regular ginger root from the supermarket? I only know of one kind, but if there are others available I would like to use those to. Thanks.

I forgot to add the main question! Does edible ginger produce plants with the ornamental foliage? If not, may I know from where I can purchase roots that do produce ornamental foliage? Thanks

Since you metioned the foliage I assume you mean Kaempferia. There are lots of different gingers. But this is one with the most different patterns on the foliage.
Browse around this link and see if you spot the one you're asking about.

Here is a link that might be useful: Kaempferia
