Help please.
I bought a rhizome of a butterfly heliconia at local nursery. And this is what I get: I suspect it being a ginger, but I am very confused by the green bloom. Could anybody please help me ID it.
Thank you very much.

| "Butterfly heliconia" must have been a labeling eror. It looks like butterfly ginger (Hedychium coronarium). The green growths at the ends of the stalks are buds. The flowers will be coming out of them very soon. There are various hedychium species and a number of hybrids, many of which look very similar until they bloom. You'll know for certain that this plant is butterfly ginger if it has white, fragrant flowers. And if it is butterfly ginger, you'll love the fragrance. It's a beautiful experience. |

| If you can post pictures of the bloom, we can probably help you ID your Hedychium. |

Yeah it just hasn't matured yet. Actual flowers will pop out of that green bloomcase. You might want to kill that pesky snail next time you are out there. To my knowledge, there's no such thing as a "butterfly heliconia" (and I have grown many, many different heliconias over the past 10+ years). If you really thought it was a heliconia, you were the victim of mislabeling. For future reference, heliconia leaves more resemble bananas or cannas than gingers |
