Controlling width of shell ginger

| I am about to plant shell ginger in my backyard and have no problems with it growing upwards but I am afraid of it getting too wide.
There is some room for grow but not tons.
Is it slow to spread? Can I just dig up the new growth at the bottom to keep it from spreading too much.
I don't know alot about ginger so I hope this makes sense.
Thanks!

It will spread and given the right conditions maybe hard to control. You might want to put it in a 25 gallon pot or tub.

Thanks. I planted it last night so I may take it out but have no place for it. We have a small yard and along the lawn (along the back fence) there is about a foot of dirt (width wise) where we do our planting. I planted it next to a tree on one side and a small hydrangea on the other. Will it overtake the hydrangea? There are alo some fuschias & camellia bushes along the fence. Does it find its way to pop up everywhere? I keep buying plants but have run out of places to put containers. :) Thanks for the feedback.

Here in Texas my shell ginger will take over anything in it's way, other gingers even. AND it's hard to dig, even in my sandy soil. So if you don't have a lot of space and want to keep it contained, I'd go for the suggestion of a big pot. However, it can and will bust open the pot and keep on going! Good luck. Tally

Thank you! Off to find some pots. I have another ginger on order and don't want them taking over my yard.
