Butterfly Ginger won't flower

I live in Costa Rica and have had white butterfly ginger for a year and it has not flowered, it is under an avocado tree and does not get too much direct sun, is this the reason, should I move, any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Butterfly ginger needs to be quite wet to flower. They grow naturally beside a river or stream. Full sun is no problem, but neither is partial shade. If you are in a dry area, it can be placed near a rain gutter for season rain or near a pond.
We are are Guanacaste and I just saw lots in bloom today next to some ditches.

That might explain why my ginger is not flowering. I've had it growing in the same location for two years now and thought it maybe needed to be there a few years before flowering. Guess I'll try watering it more next year to see if it flowers. I've been able to overwinter by covering with about a foot of leaves and come April it's already growing new leaves.
