| I live in Costa Rica and have had white butterfly ginger for a year and it has not flowered, it is under an avocado tree and does not get too much direct sun, is this the reason, should I move, any suggestions or comments are appreciated. |

Butterfly ginger needs to be quite wet to flower. They grow naturally beside a river or stream. Full sun is no problem, but neither is partial shade. If you are in a dry area, it can be placed near a rain gutter for season rain or near a pond. We are are Guanacaste and I just saw lots in bloom today next to some ditches. |

| That might explain why my ginger is not flowering. I've had it growing in the same location for two years now and thought it maybe needed to be there a few years before flowering. Guess I'll try watering it more next year to see if it flowers. I've been able to overwinter by covering with about a foot of leaves and come April it's already growing new leaves.
