gingers from the bodega sprouted. should i divide?

I bought a couple of gingers at the west indian bodega or at wholefoods and they sprouted -
one has 2 different shots about 11/12 inches tall. should i cut the rhyzome and put the plants in different pots?
what kind of ginger is it most likely? it took quite a bit to sprout.

If it was called ginger in the store it's probably Zingiber officinale. It isn't a very pretty plant and usually doesn't bloom but you can grow it for food. It wants a fair amount of sun. It's probably okay to divide it. Put it in the largest pot possible because you want it to spread.
