Hi everyone,
I bought yellow ginger from a store and think of it's tumeric. But it's so diffent although they look quite similar and especially yellow color.
The "yellow ginger" i bought was bigger and smell so strange and when i cut it into small piece and pour water in they form kind of yellow oil and insoluble and water. This oil is strong staining ur arm and clothes.
The turmeric i used to use is smaller, form yellow water soluble fluid and pleasant smell.
So any one can tell me what kind of ginger i have?
By the way anyone got pic of tumeric and yellow ginger root

Not sure what your "yellow ginger" might be, but here is a photo of some tumeric rhizomes - Curcuma longa (the two on the left). The one on the right, for comparison, is Curcuma petiolata.

Curcuma longa (2 left) - Curcuma petiolata (far right)

GingersRus, do you know of a source for these rhizomes? I have the orange variety, but I am looking for other varieties. I have been told to look in Indian markets, but I have not found it yet. Thanks.
