I am a newbie concerning gingers, and I would like to know where I can purchase Costus Barbatus (Red Velvet Ginger) and Curcuma Roscoeana (Pride of Burma). Any help would be greatly appreciated. There are so many beautiful ones in the family, but I am just going to try to start with these two.
Thank you so much.
Donna
PS. Is it better to grow in a large pot or in the ground. I live in Northwest Florida (Panhandle).
Try Gingerwood Nursery. And Stokes Tropicals. They each have one of them but not both. But you could email them and see. Costus you will probally have to grow in a pot or plant in ground and take in for the winter. I don't know how cold it gets there. The Curcuma will probally be ok in the ground. Check you zone and the zone on the plants.
I have both and am having an open house this weekend at my place. My husband and myself are just addicted to gingers and now have about 170 different varieties. we just attended Fairchild Garden's (in Coral Gables), first gingerfest and it was wonderful. Met alot of very nice people and of course came home with several new gingers.
