| My husband and I purchased a ginger rhizome on our honeymoon, four years ago. We grabbed one packaged at the airport before heading home. I only remember it being labled as a white ginger. The leaves have died back four times only to produce a stronger, healthier flush of stems each time. It has never flowered.
I am looking for advice on re-potting as the rhizomes are overcrowding the 8" pot. The leaves are thin, swordshaped and about 3' high. It seems to love being outside this summer. As I approach fall I need to know if I should re-pot, exactly when, and any other tips to keep this guy going. Hopefully get him to flower someday!
Eventually I would love to divide and have multiple containers around the house during winter. Of course I will bring them outside in the summer, much like I do with my tropical hibiscus.
Is this normal for it to die and come back? I suppose so if it is a perennial. How do I get it to flower? It seems so healthy when it comes back but only to die again.
Any suggestions? |
