I think this curcuma is one of the neatest ones I have seen. I just love the stripes.

The species is Curcuma rhabdota. I love it! It is a new species only described for the first time about 5 years ago.

I was thinking about planting curcuma in a shady spot that gets some afternoon sun. Will these plants take subfreezing weather?

I was use to curcumas having bracts about a foot or so tall, when I saw my first candycane I was shocked since it is only about 4" tall. It is still one of my favorites
Thanks,
Lynn

I am on the cusp of 8a/8b and grow it here, so perhaps with mulching it would be okay. Or you could lift it for the winter.

I got mine from Chris at the following website. He does not have any now, but will have several different kinds in the spring. His is honest, has great products, and gets them straight from the orient. He often gets unusual ones. Like the candy cane one , or like the blue moon siam tulip. His prices are great. If you will send him an email to let you know when he is going to get them, he will.

Here is a link that might be useful: buried-treasure.net
