cardamom--is it daylength sensitive?

Thought I'd post this here since cardamom is a member of the ginger family. Simple question--is cardamom (and by extension, other members of the ginger family) daylength sensitive? If so, are they short day or long day sensitive? My friend just gave me a cardamom plant, and she said that it has never flowered once here in southern California. There may be other reasons, but one possibility is that it needs different climatic conditions than we have in the San Diego area. If anyone knows, I'd be grateful to hear. Thanks, Thisbud

It grows great here in sun and semi shade. It does require lots of water and humidity. The roots have a real strong cardamon smell
