When to bring ginger plant inside?? Potted plant

Hello,

I have a ginger plant that has been very, very vigorous in a 12 inch pot. I am in Central Virginia zone 7+ - when should I bring this plant inside so that it does not go dormant?? OR will it go dormant anyway when the days shorten??
