Curcuma 'Candy Corn'

Hi All, I have very few ginger (maybe 15-20 is all), but I got this little cutie from Thailand last spring and it has done well. The guy said he wasn't even sure if it was a Curcuma and the bract seems completley different from my few others, but the flower is pretty so I thought I would share:

I'll try to take some more pics when I get more individual flowers opening over the next few days :o) Dan

Thanks, I'm happy since I now have 2 more bracts emerging.....obviously, I'm going to have to keep this one away from our cold for another month or more before forcing dormancy.....Hopefully it will want to go dormant by Thanksgiving atleast :o) Dan

I have grown it for about 5 or 6 years now and I really look forward to having it bloom each year. I acquired my plant from Mark Collins who the last time we spoke said he thought he may have lost the original stock that he collected. It's a rarity.

Very nice indeed.

Scott, it has been quite a while since I've seen you post. How's everything going in Lafayette?

Yes, I got mine from Mark as well and he has plenty I think....no problem getting them if you want to import.

can you give me any advice on overwintering?? I usually just store all of my Curcuma in pots totally dry same as my Kaempferia, Boesenbergia and Globba that I have, but I understand that some like just a touch of water to keep them from dessicating.....all advice would be very much appreciated.

They seem to multiply very fast so I am surprised that they are at all rare to be honest....unless the overwintering is the problem.....mine produced many, many new growths from the 2 rhizomes I purchased and by the time I had to bring them in for the winter I had 5 bracts from the original 2 rhizomes.

Thanks for any help you can give :o) Dan
