to cut or not to cut???please help

hello all
i have several butterfly gingers growing well,about 4-5 feet tall...
my question,since i live where we get lots of cold and snow
should i cut them back and dig the bulbs or try to overwinter them in pots???
i have some in the ground and others in pots...

I would dig them up intact and try to overwinter them in pots. Unless the stalks and leaves begin to turn brown, I would not cut any of them back. You will need to cut way back on your watering and try to give them some humidity. If you are going to overwinter them in your house, spray them occasionally.
