Want to grow edible ginger root. ???

I am going to start a ginger root from the market. Can it grow in semi moist soil? (It doesn't drain so well)
Also, how tall will it get? |

I'd wait until spring...it is just entering it's dormant period...
It LOVES water...so sounds good. and It will get,depending on conditions, around 4-5 feet tall, at least mine did. |

| Most supermarkets treat the roots so they will not sprout. If you want to make sure buy them from an Asian supermarket or a health food store! |
