Is there a picture of the ginger plants with edible roots?

Is there more than one kind of edible ginger root?

Is the root of the pinecone ginger edible?

RE: edible ginger root?

zingiber officinale (the ginger rhizome you'll commonly find) and alpinia galanga both are edible. Cardamom and turmeric are close relatives. I don't have pics, I grew a ginger rhizome into a big pretty pot of fragrant foliage. It is budded but still waiting to see the flowers :).
