Dividing a Red Ginger Plant

| I have a Red Ginger Plant in a pot on my terrace which is doing well. I want to take some shoots from the bottom and grow another plant. I have been told the plant will sulk and will not flower for 3 years. Does this apply to the new shoots or to the original plant? After establishing the new shoots I want to plant them on the beach by our club. I have seen some on the beach by a restaurant and they are doing okay, but wondered whether they would need much watering. |

| I don't know about it sulking. I've divided mine a couple of times and it's still flowering. Just take a shovel, loosen up the section you want, take a sharp knife and cut right through! |

Hi susan123_grow,
I have seen you live in Spain and you have a Red Ginger plant (Alpinia purpurata?). I live in (Cordoba) Spain too, and I have tried this plant several times in a very protected area but I have failed. Have you get any flower? Is not the plant too tender?
