oh shucks - I forgot to say that the tag on the pot of this ginger is merely "Hedychium" - nothing else is there to identify it further. It has not bloomed for me so I don't know the color

Sorry, I'm a zone 10er, no overwintering experience.

GardenKiwi, hope this is of some help to you.I keep my potted gingers in my insulated garage, winter temps go down to about 32 degrees.I do not cut the plants back. Don't water them much over the winter.I am in zone 6.I think that yours will do find in the basement with your brug.Good luck.

Read this article written by Mike Underwood for my website. Just so happens he grows Hedychiums in zone 5 Michigan and uses a basement - just like you were saying. He explains exactly how in the article.
