Anyone know where I can find pinecone ginger here in south east Alabama. I saw a man on a local tv show with some. Now I don't remember wher he was from. He said you can buy it at any nursery. I have checked all the ones in my area and no one has it.

| Mobile Botanical Garden is having a ginger talk and sale this weekend (sat oct. 23rd). I'm giving the talk and bringing some plants, not sure what they'll have (they had lots to sell but may have sold them at another sale since the ginger thing was pushed back). They have a yearly ginger sale there now. I think this was supposed to be the same date as the original talk date which was postponed due to the hurricane. Although this ginger (i assume it was zingiber zerumbet) is very common since its been cultivated for so long, there are not too many wholesale sources for it, so its not as easily available as the tissue cultured varities that are more widespread commercially now. Smaller nurseries that grow their own plants are often more likely to have something like this. If you don't want to order on-line and can't find it at a nursery, its an old-timey plant as far as gingers go so your might have a friend that has a bunch. Also, this ginger is more often called "Shampoo Ginger" than "Pinecone Ginger" so you might need to ask for it by that name instead. Tim Chapman |

I finally bought some off ebay. It hasn't came in yet. I was hoping to buy some at a nursery near by, but none seemed to have any. |
