pinecone ginger

I finally got some pinecones to grow this year. A few came up last year but the frost got them before they turned red. Most of them are red now, so how do I get the cones and when are they ready.

RE: pinecone ginger

Are you want to extract the juice from them? To extract the juice do it when they are red cut them and turn them upside down in a bowl the squeeze them. If you want them for cut flowers cut them from the time they start to turn red. Are you wanting them for propagation? I have never found them to have seeds in them but that does not mean they don't I take the rhizomes and use then to propagate from. Hope this helps
