how to plant red ginger

| hi, I have a red ginger stem cutting. I have it in a container of water where I plan to wait and let roots grow, before transplanting it to soil. Should I be doing anything differently?

Hi Roy808, I hope your ginger cutting has some rhizome on it, thats the only way I think it can survive.
is this the type you are referring too?
