hi all and thx
i started butterfly gingers this year...
they grew about 6 feet tall with no flowers..
i was adviced wisely to not cut them down..
i cut half down and am storing them in the basement..
the others i brought into the house and have them in front of sunny windows..
they are now turning brown...is this normal???
and if i keep them growing, will my chances of getting flowers increase next year???
thx again..

| Depends on when you planted them. They need a long growing season. In zone 7, mine bloomed Sept and Oct, sometimes got caught by the frost. I left them outside all year, the ground didn't freeze in winter. Yes, the ones you brought in will be dormant or nearly dormant. You can keep them in the basement too They'll tell you when they're ready to start growing again, little pink tips poking up out of the soil. Get them planted as early as you can. |
