Has anyone tried growing a green roof - eco roof - or live roof? I love sedums and grasses and want to make a green roof on my guest cottage. I am looking for ideas...Thanks!

read about it - the primary consideration is having a strong waterproof setup to grow it on ... especially in the PNW!

You are welcome to look at my Post Ranch Inn album on www.webshots.com search mrskbg. Mickey Muinnig built Ocean houses, open to the Pacific Oceanand under groundfrom the east side to preserve the exceptional landscape. They feel wonderful inside and look incrediable outside. Not the sedum type but a good example ot the possibilities. I love live roofs and want one myself!

Just imagine if all roofs were green and trees returned to blvd's and parking lots and green spread back over the concrete jungle, how much cleaner our air would be, milder our temps, healther, cleaner and certainly more beautiful, and if all runoff was cleansed in ponds that all water returning to streams, rivers and the ocean was purified. Green gutters could be beautiful, if only we would..... I'm so glad I'm old enough to remember a less contaminated earth

There is are manufactured roofing products available for green roofs. You may want to contact a company like this to help you layout your green roof design. I think most will offer a free layout and design service if you enter a contract to buy their green roof product.

You will need to verify that your roof structure can withstand the moist soil load and vegetattion load, most roofs in temperate climates that are designed for snow load have been found to be adequate without adjustments. But it should be verified.

I am not endorsing any product, but this one I have seen in person and seems like its straightforward and simple.

Here is a link that might be useful: green roof
