Store receipt

Have you taken a good look at your store receipts? How much paper and ink is wasted every day cause cashiers either don't or aren't allowed to ring in products by hitting the number of items times the price.
Example: You buy six identical cans of peaches. Instead of ringing 6 times whatever the price is the cashier scans each item individually. It not only takes longer but it waste paper and ink.
It's little stuff like this that can make a big difference since it's repeated on a mass scale day after day. Store managers should wake up to the fact that it's costing them money too. |

News features in this area lately have addressed this exact thing - waste of paper/ink and hard to decipher receipts. Seems many of the larger chains are addressing the issue and scaling down their receipts. Of course, they're looking to save their $$$, not the enviorn ..... but, for whatever reason, it's an improvement!

Oh dear. This hadn't even occurred to me. Another thing to add to my to-worry-about list. :-)

The pharmacy chain I shop at gives you War and Peace as a receipt! You get your receipt, and attached are about 4 or 5 coupons, all at least 3 or 4 inches long. A waste indeed. I was quite disappointed when my local library went from the old-fashioned, stamped due-date cards (which were used a good 80 times and made of thick paper) to a receipt printer. You get a one-time-use receipt that is printed out on that shiny paper. All in the name of progress, I suppose. Dee

We have 2 wal-marts in my city, and 1 of the stores has receipts that print on both sides of the paper. The receipt is half the size now. Who woulda thunk??

LIBRARY RECEIPTS: my kids are big readers, we can easily have 70 items signed out on my card, so I try my best to remember to remind the check out person at the start of sign out, that i don't want a receipt, since I use the library online, and can check my due dates that way. Then I don't get the 2 foot long printout!

Our local big box home improvement store gives the longest receipts possible! They recently added a picture of your signature from the electronic pad, plus usually a survey or an ad for what is for sale. It's not unusual for a receipt for two items to be 15-18" long. Really annoying!!

I did work as a part time cashier for a local big box store I agree it is a waste of paper. Store policy was to ring all items as to not make a mistake on identical items by scanning them one at a time now for the laugh you can hit the x button if there are ten or more items? SO I guess they fell that ringing twelve items one of those may look simalar but be differant. DUH,and in this store since they were so driven for feedback the manager printed up thousands of papers saying to go to the VOC(voice of the customer) and have you staple that to this long receipt, and they claim to be a GREEN company. | My husband went to PepBoys recently and bought a brake pad and two windshield wipers. The receipt is 33" long, I kid you not!!!!! I just measured it. Christy |

Unbelievable! Christy - I'm not sure if this would be out of your comfort zone but if I had that piece of proof in my hands, I would call PepBoys and push the issue. As in "what's up with this?". Even if it doesn't change anything now, it will be on the radar of at least one person. On the plus side, I am happy to say that I am seeing more and more people using the cloth bags at the grocery store. Hurray! Maureen Maureen

When I wrote this post last night, I was so aggravated I sent PepBoys a complaint. I still have the receipt; I plan on keeping it. As for the cloth bags, I recently went to Macy's. I was buying a purse, but didn't pay for the purse in the purse section. I was on a different level, and they did not have the correct tool to remove the security tag. So I paid for it, and she asked my to take it downstairs and ask them to remove it. I told her I didn't need a bag, that I already have one. She said that mine didn't say Macy's on it. I said I know, that's okay. She kept looking at me funny, and trying to get me to take a Macy's bag. I finally walked away and went downstairs. When I got downstairs, I explained that I had paid for the purse, and just needed the security tag removed. This sales associate asked me why they didn't give me a bag upstairs. I told her I didn't want one, I just need the security tag removed. She then picked up my bag with her two fingers and a look on her face like my bag was filthy. She removed my security tag, and then tried to get me to take a Macy's bag. I was so annoyed, I wrote them an email also!!! I will say that I usually get positive feedback to using my own bag, just not on that day. Christy
