Another kind of plastic bag waste

Posted by socks12345 Zone 9 (My Page) on

I've recently been replacing our bedding and have purchased several sheet sets, bed pads, comforters, etc. Boy does the plastic build up! These bags are very well made and of a heavy plastic with zippers. I really don't want to toss them out but can only use so many to store things. I cannot imagine a thrift shop would do anything but toss them out. They don't have a recycle code on the bottom.

Any suggestions?

Try Freecycle or Craig's List.
I'll bet someone will want them!

I hope you composted the old bedding:-)

Compost bedding, that would take a huge compost heap, and all I have space for is a couple worm bins. I don't think the worms could have handled a bedsheet! LOL!

It was passed on to someone else to use since it had lots of life left.

Yes, freecycle them! I'm sure someone can find a use for them. I know some folks who use them to store winter/summer clothes in off-season.

Sometimes when i have good usable things like those bags, i will ask friends if they can use them. Usually someone will take them.

Those bags are great for storing things under the bed, rather than buying plastic bins. One held my extra sheets, towels, and clothes for three years of dorm rooms (and all of the move-ins and outs). The plastic also works well for liners, since it's so thick.

I'm a knitter. I use them to store yarn in.

Im wondering if this would make a good winter sowing container? I could put a whole buncha pots/bowls/cups/containers in the one I have and use the zipper to regulate the air circulation.

thanks for the IDea gonna try it!

Ohmigosh, doris1, winter-sowing containers - What a great idea! It would be so much easier to put lots of small pots in one of those zippered bags. . . :)
I have been using them for storage of other bedding, etc. when I change it out from summer to winter, cotton to flannel.
Thorndncr, I like the under-the-bed use for them as well. Great tips!

I have lots of plastic grocery bags and I was hoping to find the frame that holds them open, it fastens on the inside of the cupboard door and can be used for trash/garbage. I have seen them before, but now that I want to buy one I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I could find one?

The Container Store used to have them.

Those are so great for storing kids toys. I keep their dinosaurs in one, another holds a game that takes several pieces to assemble, and another has the duplo blocks. The kids can easily see whats in them and can easily put away their toys after playing with them.

The larger bags hold my extra bed linens in the bottom of my linen closet.
