"Living More With Less" written by a Mennonite woman, the late Doris Janzen Longacre, came out in 1980, and I practically memorized it as a young wife and mother. It was filled with what I am always looking for: practical, hands-on tips for living a simpler more natural way of life. The beauty of this book was that it was the first of its kind to acknowledge that while yes, the US had given much to the world in other ways, the world had MUCH to teach the US on this subject: it's no anti-anybody screed, just a lovely, helpful compilation of practical ideas from around the world from cultures that have not thrown away the old ways of doing things. There was also a "Living More With Less Cookbook."
I no longer have my copy, loaned it out years ago, but plan to get another soon. It's probably long out-of-print, but copies should be easy to come by.
Read it, you will love it AND live it! |
