Cross Pollination / seed saving problems?

Hi there -

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some advice on growing several types of gourds in the same season. I'm a seed saver, and don't want to compromise them!

In the past I've always grown one of each genus, so cross pollination wasn't an issue. However this season I hope to grow two curcurbita (egg & spoon gourd) and a few langenarias (birdhouse, apple, long handle dipper, cavemans club).

I read the isolation distance needs to be 1/2 mile, can't do it, the furthest garden patches are maybe 500ft.

I can always buy new seed, but I've been saving the best and biggest for a few years, with good results. Not to toot my horn, but I think my seed is better than the ones I can buy (at least for my zone 3 climate).

Has anyone done this before, what happened?

Thanks for any advice!

Jen
