Secondly, its a little early to do much with your gourd seed, so if you want more variety, wait a couple of weeks and visit a garden center. Or you can order from the American Gourd Society or the Indiana Gourd Society. There are so many varieties of gourds available, you really should look at them.
Any gourds you plant this year won't cross with each other, but if you save seed from them you may have some interesting crosses next year.
You mentioned fancy gourds, --- if those are the small orange/green/yellow varieties, they are ornamental gourds and they will have a yellow blossom on the vines. They won't cross with the bottle gourds.
You'll need a fairly rich soil and deep pots with some drainage. The lattice panels might work very well for the ornamental gourds, but not so well for the large bottles.
The large bottles can be very heavy (around 30 lbs each).
