gr8heather, I thought I could find a helpful answer for you, but this may not be helpful. What you need is someone who understands this much better than I do, but I figured I should post the links to help you or the expert who might happen along. Best of luck! These vendors say it's hybrid: Neither Jung nor Reimer mention it being hybrid, but list it as PVP or PVP applied for. PVP means you can't legally propagate it and sell seed or plants; I don't know if you can propagate it and sell fruit legally from seed you've saved. But in any case, if it's really PVP, then the variety must be open-pollinated rather than hybrid. This info makes me wonder if the vendors who call it F1 have a lawsuit in their future. And then there's Rupp (never heard of them before), who say nothing about hybrid or PVP: If you don't get a response here, you might also try the Vegetables forum.

It is a Rupp development. Most likely PVP. if properly isolated by bagging and hand pollination it should come true. (Pumpkins of this type are very promiscuos.) PVP protects the breeder for 18 years after which it becomes open market.

Ok, Thank you both for the info. I have not hand pollinated pumpkins before, but I have read a little about it. Do you need 2 plants to hand pollinate?
